Gold Coast Marathon·Day trip

After the Gold Coast Marathon: Burleigh Heads and Tallebudgera Creek

A half-day of coastal walking at Burleigh Head National Park followed by a calm paddle or swim at Tallebudgera Creek, a gentler alternative to the ocean for legs that have had enough impact for one day.

Burleigh Heads sits south along the coast from Southport, close enough for a same-day trip that still feels like a proper change of scenery from the race precinct.

The Headland Walk

Burleigh Head National Park is a rocky headland walking track with ocean views in both directions, short enough to manage on tired legs if the pace stays gentle. Whale sightings are possible in season from July through to early November, an incidental bonus for anyone racing in the marathon's usual July window.

Tallebudgera Creek

Just south of the headland, Tallebudgera Creek offers calm, sheltered water that suits a slow paddle or swim far better than the open surf does the day after 42.195km. It is the easiest way to be near water without fighting a current.

Getting Back

The G:link tram and a short connecting walk return runners to Southport in around 25 minutes, making this a low-commitment add-on rather than a full day trip.
