The Lewa Safari Marathon finishes on the conservancy, so a two-night stay needs no travel until you leave. The point is to make two short outings and spend the rest of the time sitting down.

May in Lewa: the lodges note April and May rains, so confirm that your lodge is open and ask about road conditions. Early mornings at about 1,700 metres are cool; afternoons warm up.

Nights One and Two: Lewa

On the first afternoon do nothing. On the second morning take a game drive of two to three hours with a hot drink. Ask for a seated schedule and a late breakfast. On the second afternoon take a second short drive or a lodge-led conservation talk.

Sirikoi advertises farm-to-table dining and relaxation, and Lewa House and the Elewana lodges operate on the conservancy. Walking safaris are offered at some lodges; skip them for the first day or two after the race. Ask for a written quote and baggage allowance, because light aircraft have soft-bag limits.

Getting Home

Your lodge can arrange the transfer to Lewa Downs and a flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi, about an hour; from there it is a road transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). Leave a wide buffer for Nairobi traffic before an international flight.
