The Route: Maceió → Praia do Francês → Maceió → Maceió–Zumbi dos Palmares Airport (MCZ) Logistics: Hotel-to-hotel transfer sold by a local operator. Confirm whether it is shared or private and what luggage it carries. Marathon Month: August Duration: 1 night

Maceió ──(about 25 min by road)──> Praia do Francês (1 night) ──(same road)──> Maceió ──(transfer)──> Maceió–Zumbi dos Palmares Airport (MCZ)

A day tour covers the beach in a few hours. A night lets you see it in the evening and again in the morning. Praia do Francês lies south of Maceió, and the operator Luck Receptivo quotes about 25 minutes between the city and the beach for its day tour. Hotel-to-hotel transfers are sold separately.

August in Maceió: rainy season, with around 179 mm over the month in a long-term record and a daily range of about 20°C to 27°C. Showers pass quickly. Plan the beach time for whichever part of the day is dry and have a plan for an hour of rain.

Getting There

Travel on Monday after a quiet morning and a late breakfast. Book a hotel-to-hotel transfer, and ask three things: is it shared or private, how much luggage can it carry, and what time does the return run. Check bus times locally before relying on public transport with a bag.

Night One: Praia do Francês

Book accommodation within a short walk of the beach and ask about breakfast, since you may want to eat early on the second day. The village has restaurants and beach bars. A recovery dinner of grilled fish, rice and a lot of water works well.

The beach is the walking asset. Walk along the waterline where the sand is firmer, keep it to 20 or 30 minutes and turn round. A longer walk on soft sand is harder on tired calves and Achilles tendons than it looks.

On the second morning, sit by the sea and let the legs move at their own speed. Check the tide timetable before planning any wading, and ask locally about the sea conditions before getting in.

Getting Home

Take the return transfer to Maceió on the afternoon of the second day. Leave a margin before any flight, since the road and the pick-up may run late. The airport for the city is Maceió–Zumbi dos Palmares (MCZ), and your Maceió hotel can arrange a transfer. A flight on the morning after the beach night is easier if you stay in the city for the last night, so keep that option in mind.
