After the Napa Valley Marathon: Downtown Napa and Oxbow

The Route: Downtown Napa → Oxbow Public Market → Downtown Napa Logistics: Walkable from most downtown hotels, or a short taxi from further out. Marathon Month: March Duration: Day trip

Downtown Napa hotel ──(on foot or short taxi)──> Oxbow Public Market ──(on foot, return)──> Downtown Napa

The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon finishes at Vintage High School, a functional school site rather than a destination in itself, so the day after the race is a good time to actually see the parts of Napa the course itself runs past rather than through. Oxbow Public Market sits within easy walking distance of most downtown hotels, and the whole day can be done without a car.

March in Napa Valley runs cool and occasionally wet; a layer worth carrying rather than wearing suits a day of walking between indoor and outdoor spaces better than committing to one or the other.

Oxbow Public Market itself is a mix of indoor stalls and outdoor seating along the Napa River, with vendors covering everything from oysters to tacos to ice cream under one roof, an easy, low-walking way to spend a couple of hours without needing to choose a single restaurant. The market sits directly on the river, and a short walk along the adjacent path offers a flat, easy stretch of legs without committing to a longer outing.

Downtown Napa itself, a short walk from Oxbow, is walkable and largely level, with the Napa River running through its centre; a slow wander between the two areas, stopping wherever looks good, suits a body that ran 42 kilometres the day before better than a fixed itinerary would.

There is no return journey to plan beyond walking back the way you came, or a short taxi if the legs have had enough; downtown Napa and Oxbow sit close enough together that the whole day works on foot.
