After the Mt. Rwenzori Marathon: Four Nights in the Rwenzori Region

The marathon is named after the mountain, and four nights give time to see its edges. They do not give time to climb it. The Uganda Wildlife Authority describes a technical ascent of Margherita Peak as a nine to twelve day undertaking, and a marathon is not preparation for it.

September in the Rwenzori region: inside the rainy period, so trails are wet and the peaks are often hidden by cloud. Do not count on a clear view.

Night One: Kasese

Stay in town after the finish. Sandton Hotel on Rwenzori Road and Rwenzori International Hotel in Kamaiba are verified options. Ask each about late checkout.

Day Two: The Foothills

The authority describes guided nature and community visits around the mountain park. Choose a short one, confirm the terrain and ask about security and any permits. Use a licensed guide.

Nights Two to Four: A Nature Stay

Move once. Kikorongo Safari Lodge and Katara Lodge are both listed by the race organiser as travel partners. Pick one, get a written quote for the whole stay, transfers included, and keep the activities vehicle-based for the first day.

Health and Security

The malaria risk is high and a travel clinic should advise on prevention at least eight weeks before you go. Uganda's immigration authority has dropped the mandatory yellow-fever certificate for entry, though transmission risk remains, so check the current rule. FCDO notes concerns in parts of western Uganda and the border areas, so read its regional advice and do not cross into the Democratic Republic of the Congo on a casual extension.

Getting Home

Allow a full day for the road to Entebbe International Airport (EBB), or fly from Kasese Airstrip (KSE) if the schedules suit, and avoid a tight international connection.
