After the Maratona Maga Circe: San Felice Circeo
The Route: Sabaudia → San Felice Circeo harbour → old town → Sabaudia Logistics: A hire car or local bus. Check the Monday timetable. Marathon Month: February Duration: Day trip
Sabaudia ──(car or bus, check timetable)──> San Felice Circeo port ──> old town ──(same road back)──> Sabaudia
The Maratona Maga Circe starts at the harbour in San Felice Circeo, on Via Ammiraglio Bergamini, and runners reach it on the organiser's free shuttle from Sabaudia in the dark. Most of them see the harbour for half an hour before the 09:30 gun. On Monday it is a town, not a start line.
February in San Felice is quiet and cool, and the harbour is working but not busy. Take a layer and check opening hours, since winter schedules differ and some places close on Mondays.
The harbour
The waterfront around the start is flat, and a walk along it gives a view of the headland. It is an easy first outing for stiff legs. Check which cafes are open.
The old town
The old centre sits above the harbour on the hill, with narrow streets and steps. A taxi or a slow drive up saves the legs, and a short walk at the top is enough. Check opening hours for churches and any viewpoints.
Food
Ask at the hotel for a lunch recommendation. Fish dishes are common at the harbour, but check which restaurants are open in February and book a table.
Getting back
Return to Sabaudia by the same road. If taking a bus, check the last departure before lunch. A taxi is the fallback.
