After the LGT Alpin Marathon: Zurich and Lake Zurich

The Route: Vaduz → Buchs SG or Sargans → Zurich Logistics: Bus from Vaduz to Buchs SG or Sargans (around 15-20 minutes), then direct train on to Zurich (around 55 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes from Sargans). Zurich is the natural final stop for most international visitors to this race, since Liechtenstein itself has no airport or main-line rail station of its own; Zurich Airport is the departure point most runners will already be using regardless. Given the LGT Alpin Marathon's genuinely demanding profile, a several-day stay here, rather than a rushed transit through, gives tired legs proper recovery time in a flat, walkable city before the flight home.

The Old Town and Lake Promenade

Zurich's old town, split by the Limmat river, holds a dense concentration of medieval guildhalls and church towers, including the twin towers of Grossmünster, within a compact, entirely flat area, ideal walking for legs still recovering from a mountain marathon. The lakefront promenade extends this flat walking further, with open views down Lake Zurich toward the distant Alps, a fitting last look at the mountains after having run across an entire small alpine country days earlier.

Bahnhofstrasse

Zurich's principal shopping street runs from the main station down toward the lake, lined with department stores and boutiques, a low-effort way to spend part of a recovery day without any real physical demand.

A Lake Boat Trip

Boat trips depart from the lakefront for short or longer cruises on Lake Zurich, a genuinely low-effort way to see the surrounding landscape without walking at all, well suited to the first day or two after finishing.

Where to Eat

Zurich's Niederdorf district, on the old town's eastern bank, holds a dense concentration of restaurants and bars, ranging from traditional Swiss fare to a wide range of international options.
