The Route: Venaria Reale → Turin → Milan → Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN) Logistics: A bus or train to Turin, then a fast train to Milan. Check each leg. Marathon Month: October Duration: 2 nights

Venaria Reale ──(bus or train)──> Turin ──(fast train)──> Milan Centrale ──(airport train or bus)──> MXP or LIN

The Maratona Reale finishes at the Reggia di Venaria, and Milan lies further east along the main rail line from Turin. The trip is two legs: a short one into Turin and a longer one to Milan. Check both timetables, and allow a margin for changes.

October in Milan is cool, often misty, and darkens early. A waterproof is useful.

Nights one and two: Milan

The centre is flat. The Duomo square, the Galleria and the streets around them are a short walk, and the tram network covers longer trips. The Duomo's roof is reached by stairs or a lift, and the lift is the better choice on stiff legs. Book timed tickets for the main sights, and check opening days.

The big museums are a tram ride from the centre. Choose one rather than trying for several.

Where to stay

Stay near Milano Centrale or the flat central districts, so the airport link is short. Book a refundable room.

Food

Milan has restaurants of every kind, and they fill early in the evening. Ask the hotel for recommendations and book a table.

Getting Home

Milan Malpensa (MXP) is reached by an airport train or bus from the centre, and Linate (LIN) by city bus or taxi. Check which airport your flight uses, and the first departures for an early flight.
