After the White Peak Marathon: Easier Peak District Trail Walks

The Route: Cromford and the wider Peak District Logistics: By car or on foot from nearby trailheads; several gentler options exist close to the finish. Marathon Month: May Duration: Day trip

Cromford ──(local trails)──> Wider Peak District

Given the marathon's own demanding surface, compacted limestone and cinder on former railway lines, a genuinely gentle walk is a better plan than a strenuous hill day. Several easier waymarked options exist close to Cromford, worth treating as optional rather than mandatory.

Gentle Trail Options

Short stretches of the same former railway trails the marathon uses, the High Peak Trail and Tissington Trail, remain flat and easy for a slower walk at a fraction of the marathon's own distance. Riverside paths around Cromford and Matlock offer an even gentler alternative for legs that would rather avoid trails altogether.

Where to eat: Cafés in Cromford and Matlock provide a straightforward stop before or after any walking.

Getting Back

These options stay close to Cromford itself, so no significant further travel is required.
