York city centre ──(on foot)──> National Railway Museum / JORVIK Viking Centre
Two of York's best indoor attractions make a genuinely low-effort day for legs recovering from a marathon that included several miles of open Yorkshire countryside.
The National Railway Museum and JORVIK
The National Railway Museum, one of the largest of its kind in the world, holds a huge collection of historic locomotives and rolling stock, an easy, largely flat walk-round exhibition. JORVIK Viking Centre offers an immersive look at York's Viking-era history, a compact, seated experience that asks little of tired legs.
Where to eat: Both attractions are close to York city centre's wide range of cafés and restaurants, an easy stop either side of visiting.
Getting Back
Both attractions sit within York city centre itself, so no further travel is required.
