History

Blumenau's marathon has a long name and an interrupted past. The 25th edition, run on 23 July 2023, was the race's return after 17 years, and the race had been popular among Brazilian runners in the 1990s. The founding year has not been established, so the edition number cannot be turned into a start date by subtraction.

The return had a last-minute change. The organisers first announced a course from Itajaí to central Blumenau. Permission was not obtained, so the race used two laps of about 21 km around the city, with a shared start and finish.

The 28th edition ran on 5 July 2026. Its start was at 06:00 on Alameda Duque de Caxias, known locally as Rua das Palmeiras, with the expo at the Vila Germânica park. Aline Thomé won the women's marathon. In the full marathon 214 runners finished, 177 men and 37 women, among 2,981 finishers across the four running distances. More than 3,600 people attended the event overall.

For 2027 the organiser, CORBLU (the Blumenau street runners' association), has moved the start to 07:00 and named Rua XV de Novembro 160 as start and finish. The rules quote record benchmarks of 2:12:39 for men (William Musyoky) and 2:40:51 for women (Rosa Jussara Barbosa). The dates and routes of those times are not given, so they are not course records on the current route.

The course

The Maratona Internacional de Blumenau starts and finishes at Rua XV de Novembro 160 in the centre of Blumenau, at 07:00 in 2027. The marathon is two laps of a loop of about 21 km, and the half marathon runs one lap. A lap leaves along Rua XV de Novembro and Avenida Presidente Castelo Branco (km 1), follows Avenida Martin Luther through Victor Konder and Itoupava Seca (km 2 to 3), and runs along Rua Walter Berner in Boa Vista (km 4 to 5). It continues on Rua São Paulo and Rua 2 de Setembro in Itoupava Norte (km 6 to 10), the farthest point of the lap at about km 7.5, 4.6 km from the start in a straight line.

The lap returns on Rua das Missões and Rua Uruguai in Ponta Aguda (km 11 to 14), Rua República Argentina (km 15 to 17), Rua São Bento and Rua Itajaí in Vorstadt (km 18 to 20), and rejoins Rua XV de Novembro at km 21. The second lap repeats the same streets, with the farthest point at about km 28.6 and the finish on Rua XV de Novembro.

The smoothed profile spans 15 m, from 13 m to 28 m. Each lap rises about 8 m between km 1 and km 2, holds 22 m to 26 m through Martin Luther and Walter Berner, and drops 10 m between km 5 and km 6 to the lap's low point of 13 m at about km 7.7. Ponta Aguda sits at 17 m to 23 m. No single climb exceeds 10 m, and no official elevation-gain figure has been published. The surface is asphalt.

Kilometre by kilometre

Km 0 to 10: out through Victor Konder to Itoupava Norte. All four distances leave Rua XV de Novembro together at 07:00, in winter light, so the first kilometres are crowded with runners on shorter races. The route climbs about 8 m on Avenida Presidente Castelo Branco, holds 22 m to 26 m along Avenida Martin Luther, then drops 10 m on Rua Walter Berner between km 5 and km 6. Rua São Paulo and Rua 2 de Setembro run flat through Itoupava Norte to the lap's farthest point at about km 7.5.

Km 10 to 21: Ponta Aguda and back to the centre. Rua das Missões and Rua República Argentina move between 17 m and 23 m with steps of 4 m or less, and Rua São Bento and Rua Itajaí lead back into the centre. The lap closes at km 21 on Rua XV de Novembro, where the half marathon finishes and the marathon field turns for the second lap.

Km 21 to 31: the second lap, quieter. The half-marathon field has finished, so the same streets are emptier. The 8 m rise and the 10 m drop return at km 22 to 23 and km 26 to 27, and the farthest point comes at about km 28.6.

Km 31 to 42.2: Ponta Aguda again, then the finish. The second visit to Ponta Aguda covers km 32 to 38, with the same short steps of 17 m to 22 m. The final kilometres run down Rua Itajaí and Rua XV de Novembro to the finish at Rua XV de Novembro 160. The finish chute and timing mats are not mapped.

What to wear

July is Blumenau's winter. Monthly averages run from 11°C at night to 20°C by day, with 99 mm of rain over the month, so treat them as a guide. The 07:00 start falls in the coldest hours, and runners in 2026 reported feeling cold near the river.

Plan for a cold wait and a warmer finish. Arrive by 06:00 as the rules require, and keep a layer you can shed or send to the bag store. The bag store closes at 14:00. No clothing-donation scheme is published, so do not plan to throw a layer away on the road. Gloves and a thin hat cost little and come off easily.

Rain is possible at any time of year. A light shell is more useful than an umbrella for the start area. By late morning the temperature climbs and runners at the back of the field are still out, so carry sunscreen if the forecast is clear.

Entry

Entry is open. There is no ballot and no general qualifying time. Register through Corre Ticket and Ticket Sports, using the links on the organiser's pages, and treat the production site as the only place to pay. The 8,000 cap covers all four distances, so the marathon has no published separate cap. Entries can close early if the cap is reached, and the final sale date is 4 June 2027. Prices follow three tiers, shown in the table below.

These are face prices and apply to any of the four distances. Check platform charges at checkout. Every entrant receives a bib and a timing chip. The two packages are not itemised, so check what the kit includes before paying. Finishers receive a medal.

Marathon and half-marathon entrants must be 20 by 31 December 2027. Runners aged 60 and over pay half of the final-tier price. Entrants with a disability pay the same concession for up to 25 places, and may be asked for documents. Groups of 11 to 25 receive 10%, 26 to 45 receive 12.5% and larger groups receive 15%. Do not assume discounts combine.

Distance changes can be made through the platform until 25 June 2027, or at collection for R$50. A name change needs written authorisation at collection and costs R$50. Cancellation is possible within seven days of payment. After that the rules do not give refunds if you cannot run.

Fast runner standards

There is no qualifying time and no ballot. Elite bibs numbered 1 to 100 are a separate category, so no general good-for-age standard applies.

Race Weekend

Expo and bib collection

Race packs are collected at Parque Vila Germânica, Rua Alberto Stein 199, on Friday 2 July and Saturday 3 July, from 09:00 to 20:00.

Bring official photo identification and your entry confirmation. A friend can collect your pack with signed authorisation and a copy of your document. Runners with a 60+ or disability concession must collect in person. Team tents are arranged at Saturday collection and cannot be set up the day before.

There is no race-day collection. A Saturday arrival has to reach Vila Germânica before 20:00, so a late flight could leave you without a bib. A Friday arrival gives some slack.

The expo is in a different part of town from the start and finish. The airport shuttle ends at Alameda Rio Branco 92, not at the park, and no free expo shuttle has been confirmed. Plan a short taxi or local journey from the hotel.

The Empório at Vila Germânica is open all year with food and souvenir shops. Its opening hours are separate from the collection hours, so collect the bib first. Ask at collection for the final map, any late route changes, the bag-drop position and toilet layout.

Getting to the start

Be at Rua XV de Novembro 160 by 06:00. The regulation asks for arrival at least one hour before the start because traffic can delay access. The anthem is at 06:50 and the race starts at 07:00. The start remains open for ten minutes.

Rua XV de Novembro 160 is also the address of the Museu da Cerveja. The museum's door is not necessarily the race entrance, so look for the marked access in daylight the day before. Route amendments can be announced over the sound system.

No free race-day transport has been published. A hotel in the centre keeps the walk short, but the last stretch to the barriers should be checked. A hotel farther away needs a booked car and an agreed drop-off point.

Portable toilets and a courtesy bag store are promised at the start and finish. The bag store closes at 14:00, and belongings left after that are stated to be donated. Do not leave valuables, since the organiser does not reimburse lost contents. The numbers of toilets, the bag dimensions and the bag-store opening time are not published.

Nutrition on course

The organiser promises water, both ambient and chilled, isotonic drink and salt sachets about every 3 km. The brand of isotonic and the number of stations are not stated, and the positions are not published. Do not assume that every station carries all three products.

Cup or bottle format, personal-bottle arrangements and elite tables are not documented.

Carry your own gels. At 3 km spacing a runner on a four-hour pace passes a station about every 20 minutes. In July the cold can mask thirst, so drink at every station.

Spectating

The start and finish share an address, so the simplest plan is one spot. Watch the 07:00 start, go for breakfast, and return for the finish. A 3h30 marathoner finishes at about 10:30, 4h30 at about 11:30 and 5h30 at about 12:30. These are sums from the gun and need the runner's actual start delay added.

If the route is two laps, as in 2023 and 2026, a spectator at the centre sees the runner twice, at around the half-way point and at the finish. That depends on the 2027 route. No spectating map has been published.

        Post-race food

No finish-area food is published. Three places are worth a plan.

Museu da Cerveja Biergarten, Rua XV de Novembro 160. The same address as the start and finish. The kitchen is listed from 09:30 to 16:00 and the wider shop until 17:30, but race operations may change access, so check before promising a table.

Restaurante Vila Germânica, Rua Alberto Stein 215. German dishes including joelho de porco (pork knuckle). Two sources disagree on hours, one giving 11:00 to 18:00 and the other a buffet from 11:00 to 15:00 and à la carte from 16:00. Confirm Sunday service and book. It is a trip from the finish, so plan it as a later meal.

Bier Vila, Empório Vila Germânica, Rua Alberto Stein 199. Typical dishes and batata rosti. Confirm Sunday kitchen hours.

        Where to Stay

Start and finish share one central address, so the choice is between a short walk on race morning and an easy trip to the expo.

        Centro

The natural shortlist for the race. ibis Blumenau is at Rua Paul Hering 67 and the Slaviero Hotel Blumenau at Rua 7 de Setembro 640. ibis budget Blumenau, at Rua Paulo Zimmermann 142, is the cheaper option. Walking distances to the start have not been measured, so check the route against the barriers before calling any of them walk-to-start. None of the hotels has been confirmed to serve breakfast before the 06:00 arrival deadline.

        Near Vila Germânica

Hotel Steinhausen, at Rua Minas Gerais 53, is one of two hotels named in the race regulation. It suits runners who want the expo close. The cost is a longer approach on Sunday morning. The affiliation does not establish a shuttle, a discount or a pre-dawn breakfast.

        Ponta Aguda

Steinhausen Colonial, at Rua Buenos Aires 275, is the second named hotel. The hotel group's older contact page gives a different address (number 401 as an Apart Hotel), so confirm the location when booking.

For any property, ask about early food, luggage storage after checkout, a late checkout and how the entrance works when roads are closed. A 07:00 start with a 06:00 arrival leaves no room for a normal breakfast. Consider booking the Sunday night as well, so you can sleep after the race.

No race-week availability or sellout pattern has been published.

Flights go to Navegantes (NVT) in practice. A paid shuttle runs between the airport and Alameda Rio Branco 92 in Blumenau. The posted fare was R$70 one way and R$120 return when checked in October 2026. Schedules depend on flights.

        Frequently asked questions

Should I stay near the start or the finish?

They are the same place, Rua XV de Novembro 160. A hotel in the centre is the first shortlist. Hotel Steinhausen and Steinhausen Colonial, both named in the rules, suit the expo or a quieter base. Walking distances to the start are not measured, so check the route against the barriers.

How far in advance should I book a hotel?

No sellout pattern has been published. Book a refundable room once your entry is confirmed and make sure you arrive for collection on 2 or 3 July. Entry prices rise on 30 January and 17 April 2027, and sales end on 4 June or earlier if the cap is reached.

Is public transport free on race day?

No free race-day travel has been found. The paid airport shuttle and city buses are separate services. If you plan to use a bus to reach the start by 06:00, check the Sunday timetable and any diversions.

What is the best neighbourhood to stay in?

Centro for the shortest route to the start. The area around Vila Germânica suits runners who put the expo first. Choose by the actual walk, the breakfast arrangement and checkout terms.

When does the expo open, and what do I need to bring?

Friday 2 July and Saturday 3 July, 09:00 to 20:00, at Parque Vila Germânica, Rua Alberto Stein 199. Bring photo identification and your entry confirmation. A friend can collect with signed authorisation, but concession entrants must collect in person. There is no race-day collection.

What is the weather typically like on race day?

July is winter. A climate service gives 11°C at night and 20°C by day, with 99 mm of rain over the month. The station and years are not stated, and the 07:00 start is at the cold end. Check the forecast in race week.

How do I get from the airport to the city centre?

Navegantes Airport (NVT) is the practical airport. A paid shuttle runs to Alameda Rio Branco 92 in Blumenau, with no hotel drop-offs. The fare was R$70 one way and R$120 return when checked. Plan a short onward trip to your hotel or the expo.

Is there a bag drop at the race?

Yes, at the start and finish with your bib. It closes at 14:00 and belongings left after that are donated. Do not leave valuables. Opening time and bag size are not published.

Should I bring a throwaway layer to the start?

A layer helps during an hour of waiting in winter. No clothing-donation scheme has been published, so use the bag store or hand the layer to a companion. Do not drop clothes on the course.

How do I get back to my hotel after finishing?

Walk if you are close, or arrange a pickup outside the controlled area. The airport shuttle leaves from its own stop, not the finish. Collect your bag before 14:00 and avoid same-day flights.
