Sparta Marathon: what happened to it
No road marathon in Sparta could be confirmed. The long-distance event linked to the city is the Spartathlon, a 246 km ultramarathon from the Acropolis in Athens to the statue of Leonidas in Sparta, held each September (the 44th edition was on 26 and 27 September 2026). The nearest full marathons are the Olympia Marathon in late November and the Nafplio Marathon in spring.
